Translate with AI
Set up Claude, OpenAI or Gemini on your own key, run a translation and review every draft.
TakeOff translates store text with your own API key from Anthropic (Claude), OpenAI or Google (Gemini). Requests go directly from your Mac to the provider; the provider bills you, and TakeOff adds nothing on top. AI translation is part of Pro.
Add a provider key
In Settings › Keys, pick a provider and paste its API key. TakeOff checks the format before saving it; for example, Claude keys start with sk-ant-, OpenAI keys with sk-, and an Admin key is refused. Each provider has a default model; choose another from the list, or type a model ID under Another model…. The connection test reports Connected with the model name.
The key is stored in your Keychain, for this Mac only. It never sees your App Store Connect key.
Run a translation
Press Translate in the toolbar and choose:
- Target languages
- Fields: Name, Subtitle, Promotional Text, Description, What’s New and Keywords. The Marketing URL is never sent.
- Keywords: Generate for each market, Revise current lists or Translate source list
- Protected terms: brand and product names kept exactly as written
TakeOff sends one request per language, three languages at a time, and shows the tokens used. Every answer is checked against Apple’s limits; a draft that is too long gets one follow-up asking the model to shorten it. On a live version, the locked fields are skipped.
Review the drafts
Translations land in a review queue, not in your text. For each draft, approve, edit, reject or skip it, or approve every draft without a warning at once. Keyboard: ↑ ↓ to move, ⏎ to approve, ⌘E to edit, ⌘R to reject.
Approving saves the draft on this Mac. It reaches App Store Connect with your next push.
What is sent to the provider
The app’s name and category, the source and target language, the text of the chosen fields, your protected terms, and in Revise mode that language’s current keywords. Never images, and never your App Store Connect key.
When the provider returns an error
Messages about the key, credit, quota or rate limits come from your provider; fix them in Settings › Keys or in the provider’s dashboard. Rate limits, overloads and network errors are retried up to four times on their own.
