App Store character limits for every field
Each language of an App Store listing has seven text fields. Name and Subtitle allow 30 characters, Promotional Text 170, Keywords 100, Description and What’s New 4000, and the Marketing URL 255.
The seven fields
| Field | Limit | Belongs to |
|---|---|---|
| Name | 30 | App information, published with the version |
| Subtitle | 30 | App information, published with the version |
| Promotional Text | 170 | Version |
| Description | 4000 | Version |
| Keywords | 100 | Version |
| What’s New | 4000 | Version |
| Marketing URL | 255 | Version |
Keywords: the commas count
The 100 characters include the commas between keywords. Removing one keyword frees its length plus one comma. TakeOff shows keywords as separate pills against the 100-character budget, with what each one would free.
What you can change while a version is live
Once a version is live, only Promotional Text can be changed without a new version. Every other field waits for the next version you submit.
Limits are per language
Every language has its own limits, and a translation is often longer than the source. TakeOff counts each field in each language against its limit, holds back anything over the limit at push time, and lists those fields so you can shorten them.
TakeOff counts every field in every language against these limits and holds back what is over before it pushes.
